During the Spring we hope to start a new Tring Brewery Members club, which for an annual subscription you will benefit from reduced beer price through the shop, some free merchandise and an invite for two to four seasonal brewery visits. We were extremely surprised by the government’s increase beer duty. Not only does this come at a time when the pubs are still trying to recover from the impact of the smoking ban, it also comes at a time when our industry has been hit by drastic increases in raw material costs that have, to some degree, been passed on to the pubs. Current statistics show that at the present rate, four pubs are closing every day. The government stated that this increase will help kerb binge drinking – utter balderdash. The only way price will have an impact will be to control the price at which supermarkets sell alcohol. Increasing prices in pubs will only drive sales through the supermarkets who often use alcohol sales as a loss leader.
